"Cow sits upon my shoulder and butts her head against mine whenever I make a kissing sound. She is not mine, it’s feels more like I am hers, nobody can really own a cat. Having a discussion with a cat is much like looking into a mirror. These abstract paintings of cats focus on the playful nature of the feline through painterly explorations in form and color. Each piece is approached as a problem to be solved and therefore executed as an adventure to be painted. Here I attempt to redefine exactly how, where and what contemporary painting is. Unlike a monkey, a lady, a flower or a bird, a cat is a very different beast indeed. My intention in these works is to definitively represent the felines’ enigmatic and graceful mannerisms while simultaneously respecting the creature’s charismatic mystique and right for privacy . By applying the energetic mark making taught unto me by mentor; Max GIMBLETT, upon textured surfaces, with forceful and intuitive brushstrokes, I turn the cat into a bold and playful subject of inspection."
